We are seeking a recognized senior defense industry expert to help us lead studies, analyses, and engineering teams supporting Air Force and Navy strategic systems. You'll collaborate broadly across APL mission sectors identifying critical gaps in industrial capacity to meet sponsor requirements. As a member of our team, you'll contribute directly by advising APL teams as they engage with industry technical and leadership teams to solve complex technical development challenges during EMD and operations and sustainment testing and evaluation. You will be joining a hardworking team of engineers and scientists who serve as independent evaluators, technical direction agents, and trusted advisors to the government. - Your primary responsibility will be to advise and interface with technical groups and program managers, sponsors, and industry partners in the conduct of studies, evaluations, independent reviews and developmental strategies.
- You will lead technical studies to inform system development and sustainment. This includes organizing the study team, defining the study, conducting the study, and developing and delivering technical products and presentations to sponsors and industry.
- You will serve as the Strategic Deterrence Mission Area senior advisor on defense industrial base matters and will engage with Navy Strategic Systems Programs and the ICBM Systems Directorate on matters related to the DIB.
- You will assist the four Program Area Managers (PAMs), the 4 Program Area Chief Engineers (PACEs), the Mission Area Chief Scientist, the Deputy Mission Area Executive and the Mission Area Executive build effective industry relationships to enable APL to effectively execute technical development roles assigned by the government.
Qualifications
You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...
- Possess a MS or MBA in a leadership focused program of study
- Have 25+ years of relevant experience working in defense industry positions of progressively increased scope and responsibilities, to include successful experience leading strategic initiatives in Sentinel development, air and missile defense, electronic warfare, and/or next-generation interceptor systems.
- Are skilled in technical problem solving and modernization efforts for complex systems and sub-systems.
- Possess expert knowledge in the areas of weapon systems integration, architecture and engineering.
- Have exceptionally strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills with the demonstrated ability to effectively to interface with all levels of staff, sponsors, industry partners and military personnel.
- Are willing and able to travel as required to meet with sponsors or industry.
- Hold an active Top Secret security clearance and can ultimately obtain a TS/SCI level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL’s good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance. APL provides eligible staff with a comprehensive benefits package including retirement plans, paid time off, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, flexible spending accounts, education assistance, and training and development. Maximum Rate
