Job Description

Description

Are you a mechanical engineer that wants to use your technical expertise and communication skills to make a true difference? Do you enjoy a balance of analysis, design, and research and have a desire to further sharpen your engineering skills?

If so, we're looking for someone like you to join our team at APL.

We are seeking an innovative, collaborative engineer to help enable new technologies and sensor systems to become reality. Our contributions are sought after by our sponsors across the entire defense acquisition process and on both sides of the systems engineering “V”. We solve the hard problems that move technologies from a spark of an idea into hardware on current and future platforms. Our team's focus is ensuring the packaging, thermal, and structural integrity of RF and EO/IR sensor systems, from conceptual brainstorming and design, to prototyping, to final system performance, and everything in between. You will join a diverse, hardworking team of mechanical and electrical engineers who are passionate about collaborating to apply their expertise to groundbreaking sensor technologies. You will make significant contributions to our team by helping us accelerate the development of sensor systems needed by our warfighters!

As a a Sensor Systems Mechanical Engineer you will...

  • Perform system engineering, requirement trade studies, and validate feasibility as part of a multi-disciplined team that supports concept creation, system development, and technical analysis to meet Department of Defense sponsor needs.
  • Work with sponsors, prime contractors, platform managers, and shipyards to develop platform integration approaches.
  • Evaluate new technologies in packaging, thermal management, structures, and materials for applicability to advanced sensor systems.
  • Design and implement sophisticated sensor concepts for hardware demonstrations.
  • Perform structural and thermal analysis to develop and validate hardware designs.
  • Present analysis to sponsors and prime contractors to help guide program direction.
  • Explore opportunities to translate findings into whitepapers, conference talks, journal articles, or other publications.

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...
