Description
Provides comprehensive technical work for incoming Auditorium/Conference events and provides responsible and complex technical support to the Technical Director, J.E. Broyhill Civic Center.
Examples of Duties
Essential and other responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Essential Functions:

Participate in all technical aspects of the theatrical production and conference prep/changeover including, but not limited to, to include audio, lighting, and video design and engineering. In conjunction ensure that event prep/changeover is provided for conference center events.
- In conjunction with the Technical Director and Coordinator, Conferences & Events, provide comprehensive technical support, setup and teardown of assigned conference center events.
- Support and troubleshoot routine IT technical needs for client rentals and events.

Work directly with patrons, college staff, and students to ensure positive event management outcomes.

Ensure adherence to all OSHA safety rules and ADA requirements in facility preparation.
- For all assigned shifts, open the building to ensure presentable for use; close facility, performing post-event walk-throughs and safety checks.
Marginal Functions:
- Assist with the the inventory, tracking, and maintenance of tools, materials, and equipment used in the operation of the Civic Center.
- Participates in professional development activities and required employee training.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Working Conditions
Knowledge of:
Basic working knowledge of electrical principles in a technical production environment.
Basic TCP/IP networking skills to include IPV4, wireless, and DHCP.
Methods, materials, techniques and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of equipment and facilities.
Practices and techniques for the operation and design of basic theatrical sound, lighting, and video operations.
Basic knowledge of the operation of a single purchase counterweight system.
Procedures and techniques of diagnostic equipment.
Basic principles and procedures of record keeping.
Occupational hazards and applicable safety precautions.
Current trends, research and development in the area of assignment.
Pertinent federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations.
Basic knowledge of arithmetic, spelling, English and grammar.
Ability to:
Interpret and apply Federal, State and local policies, laws, and regulations.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Interpret, explain, and enforce departmental policies and procedures.
Follow all safety rules and regulations of the Civic Center.

Operate a variety of stationary mechanical equipment in a safe and effective manner.

Produce theater sound and lighting.
Environmental Conditions:
The employee should have the ability to effectively handle a work environment and conditions which involves an indoor office or theatre environment; working with machinery; exposure to dust and dirt; working at heights on scaffolding and ladder; may be exposed to hazardous chemicals and materials.
The employee must preserve environments by maintaining equipment and supplies, ensuring overall cleanliness, functionality, and conformance to OSHA standards to provide a safe work environment
Physical Conditions:
Physical and marginal functions require the ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include the following; standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, sitting, climbing, and descending for extended periods, frequently lifting and carrying 60 pounds in difficult work positions, periodically lifting or moving 75 pounds in difficult work positions, general manual dexterity, operating assigned equipment, and repeated bending is required. Lifting occasionally occurs in difficult work positions, including an auditorium catwalk at 70+ feet in height.
The employee is required to maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for making observations, reading and writing, operating assigned equipment, communicating with others, and handling varied tasks simultaneously.
Additionally, the employee must maintain mental capacity, which permits making sound decisions and using good judgment, demonstrating intellectual capabilities, and evaluating the effectiveness of programs and personnel.
Scheduling Conditions:
This is a full-time position working 36 hours a week, with flexible scheduling including days, evenings, weekends, special event/holiday work required as based on the needs of programming.
Traveling Conditions:
Local travel between the Caldwell campus, Watauga campus, or any off-campus sites may be needed. Out of state travel is limited, but may be required for training and conferences.
Experience and Training
Experience:
Minimum one-year live engineering experience in audio, video, lighting, and/or production industry required. Three years preferred.
Training:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Associates degree in technical theater or related field preferred.
