Job Summary
The Clinical Coordinator, Health Professions Programs provides administrative oversight to all clinical coordination for Health Professional Programs including the Dedicated Educational Unit (DEU). This coordinator is the liaison responsible for maintaining collaboration with the clinical partners by facilitating partnership meetings, providing DEU orientation, and facilitating quality improvement meetings. This coordinator works closely with the Director of ASN Nursing, charge nurse or clinical supervisor, in providing overall support. The Clinical Coordinator will also be responsible for working with Health Profession Program Directors in coordinating clinical placements and student credentialing.
Responsible for demonstrating LSSC’s core values of Caring, Communicating, Collaborating, and Celebrating when interacting with students, employees, visitors, and community members.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist students in applying knowledge, skills, attitudes, and specific clinical competencies in the clinical setting.
- Organize credentialing strategies with each clinical partner requirements.
- Collaborating with Directors of ASN. MLT, Respiratory Care and future HP Programs regarding clinical experience scheduling for each semester.
- Evaluate the clinical performance of DEU students at mid-semester (formative) and at the completion of the clinical (summative), and when needed, based on: * Clinical evaluation tool items; * Other clinical assignments such as papers and presentations
- Collaborate with the course faculty regarding student issues such as absences, tardiness, and difficulty meeting course objectives, including appropriate referrals for students who are under performing and for students at risk for clinical failure.
- Collaborate with the course faculty for assistance with developing remediation plans if issues arise. When needed, provide additional documentation, such as implementing and completing forms and processes when issues arise.
- Coordinate DEU Instructor orientation and meet and greet session for students and staff. Establish a collegial relationship with the agency's nurse educator, nurse manager, and other health care team members. Collaborates with the nurse manager, staff, and nurse educator to provide students with experiences that facilitate the attainment of course and clinical objectives.
- Participate in LSSC faculty orientations and ongoing faculty development programs. Attend faculty meetings.
- Participate in the clinical faculty orientation and other programs and offerings at the designated clinical agency to orient and maintain institutional credentialing.
- Develop and maintain online continuing educational shells related to the DEU. Create and manage the Dedicated Education Unit's ongoing clinical education in accordance with licensing and continuing education agencies. Maintain ongoing data on the Dedicated Educational Unit outcomes.
- Meet with Dedicated Educational Unit staff and administrators as needed to ensure the success of the Dedicated Educational Unit. Promote support to the DEU program.
- Remain current in theory, scholarship, and best practices in clinical nursing education and the clinical and theoretical aspects of a specific nursing practice area.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Be familiar with specific course requirements, required clinical experiences, and college policies and procedures
- Theoretical and clinical expertise in clinical instruction and education for Health Professions.
- Excellent communication, assessment, evaluation, and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of Dedicated Education Unit clinical model.
- Advanced oral and written communication skills
Minimum Qualifications & Education
- Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution required; MSN in Nursing Education or Nurse Practitioner, from an accredited institution preferred.
- Three years clinical experience.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) Certificate.
