PCI's San Diego Marine branch is seeking hard-working, motivated, career-minded persons to become valued members of our team. This position is responsible for providing labor support for experienced carpenters and/or insulators. In the meantime, employees will develop personal skills. No experience is necessary for this position, but prior construction experience is beneficial. Entry-level personnel will learn insulation removal and/or installation on the job whenever feasible. Employees will also have opportunities to participate in formal skills training classes that help them advance more quickly in both pay and responsibility. Insulation work performed on the job will be reviewed and evaluated by supervisors. All newly hired personnel function under the guidance of more experienced team members, not limited to Shipyard Workers, Trainees, Craftsmen, Apprentices, and Journeymen.
Routine job responsibilities include:
    Conveying material to various locations throughout the jobsite.
  • Organizing and maintaining clean work areas.
  • Performing basic insulation installation, coating application, taping, and removal.
Tools will be provided to entry level workers. Such tools are company owned and will be replaced at employee expense if lost or damaged due to employee negligence. If no longer effective due to normal wear and tear, tools will be replaced at company expense.
This position is safety-sensitive.
This is an entry-level position with starting pay at $20.80 per hour, plus benefits; however, there is potential to make upwards of $30 per hour within a few years. Entry-level position typically lasts 1-year (approximately 2,000 labor hours). Wage progression (raises) occurs at certain attained hours or at the discretion of the Superintendent.

Dimensions:

  • Crew size: Normally able to assist from 5 to 10 insulators and/or carpenters as a general helper
  • Entry level position generally lasts to approximately 2,000 Hours. Employees will be required to join the applicable Union. Wage progression (raises) happen at certain attained hours worked or at the discretion of the Superintendent.
  • Tools: Will be provided to entry level workers, tools are company owned and will be replaced at employee expense if lost or damaged due to employee negligence. Tools will be replaced at Company expense due to normal wear and tear.

  • No previous experience required
  • Employees will be required to join the applicable labor union, Heat & Frost Insulators Local 5.
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • On-the-job training offered
  • Able to withstand prolonged periods standing and working outside
  • Physically able to perform assigned tasks
  • Must be able to lift 40 pounds at a time
  • Work authorization
Preferred Requirements / Requisitos Preferidos
  • Prior experience in the construction industry
  • Local to the San Diego metro area
