The Associate Director of Global Education, a member of the Study Abroad and the Global Engagement Teams, plays a key role in advancing the global education for our outbound study abroad students as well as inbound short-term international students. The Associate Director is charged with the responsibility of elevating study abroad students’ intercultural learning and global competencies. The position has the overall responsibilities of designing and implementing the strategies for developing the global competencies of study abroad students through pre-departure orientations, study abroad online courses, and reentry programming. The Associate Director will create workshops for inbound international students focusing on intercultural communication, leadership skills and English language skills. The position will also offer academic support to faculty and staff on intercultural competency development. The Associate Director of Global Education reports to the Senior Director of Global Education at Notre Dame Global and will work very closely with the Director of Study Abroad, the Summer/Short-Term Study Abroad Programs Director and the Global Engagement Programs Director.
Specific job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
● Design, implement and manage systems for global competence development for study abroad students as well as incoming short-term international students; implement Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI) or other assessment tools to advance intercultural competence development; and lead the assessment for study abroad learning outcomes.

● Deliver workshops and facilitate the instructional needs of the academic content for the summer Global Professional Experience (GPE) program and the summer Global Research Experience (GRE) program, both of which have a curricular component designed to enhance students’ critical skills for the future global engagement; develop and manage the intercultural learning content for the summer programs.
● Work with the Global Engagement Programs (GEP) and design appropriate academic content for customized programs, in collaboration with Director of GEP; and provide workshops for the Global Engagement Programs as they relate to intercultural learning, leadership skills or other content where appropriate and needed.
● Offer academic support to faculty and staff as they relate to global competency development, and work with campus partners and faculty to facilitate Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) and virtual exchange efforts with partners around the globe.
● Manage study abroad and/or global engagement programs as needed and where appropriate; work on special projects as assigned and as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in a related field
- 5+ years of experience at an educational institution
- 5+ years of experience in teaching ESL, leadership skills, intercultural communication or other related subjects
- In-depth understanding of the scholarship and practice of study abroad
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to positively engage people from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds
Preferred Qualifications
- Ph.D. or terminal degree preferred
- Trained and certified administrator in IDI
- Experience working in a large and complex research university
- Experience in learning outcome assessment
- Significant international experience living, studying or working abroad
