Role Summary
Patrols campus, conducts security inspections of residential buildings, and cooperates with Campus Police to protect individuals and property, prevent crime, and monitor environmental hazards. This position performs a variety of duties to monitor and promote safety of students, faculty and staff. This position patrols assigned areas, secures buildings, and assists individuals to provide for safety on the University campus. The incumbent ensures that the campus buildings are locked and not violated; patrols assigned areas on foot; provides information to students, staff, and the general public; and assists in the enforcement of parking regulations; and identifies, corrects or reports to appropriate persons any actions or situations which may present a hazard to public safety, physical security, and/or public welfare in and around assigned areas.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following.

Patrols by foot assigned areas of the campus.

Conducts security inspections of facilities and reports findings.

Performs tasks to ensure security of campus buildings.

Directs traffic and/or assists in the enforcement of parking regulations.
Examples of Work Performed

Performs a variety of duties in monitoring assigned area to detect fires, trespassers, or other unusual occurrences, and provides comprehensive perimeter security and access control for all assigned buildings.

Completes building security tasks such as locking and unlocking doors, closing windows, checking property and equipment, setting alarms and turning lights off and on as assigned.

Observes and detains violators of rules and regulations and applicable criminal laws.

Maintains documentation and reports pertaining to activities of assigned areas.

Assists University Police Officers when necessary and relieves officers in non-criminal matters.

Maintains public confidence and support by emphasizing public relations through providing information about the University and related matters to students, staff, and the general public.

Conducts security inspections periodically and makes recommendations for eliminating security risks.

Directs traffic and/or assists in the enforcement of parking regulations, control of admission, or point of entry as directed by supervisors.

Identifies, corrects, or reports actions or situations which may present a hazard to public safety, physical security, and/or public welfare in and around assigned areas.

Completes foot patrol inspections of buildings, grounds, and parking lots, as assigned, and completes appropriate building inspection checklists on daily basis.

Monitors assigned areas for fires, trespassers, or unusual activity and provides perimeter security and access control.

Locks and unlocks doors, checks windows, sets alarms, and turns lights on/off as needed.

Observes and detains individuals violating rules or laws.

Documents activities and prepares reports for assigned areas.

Assists University Police Officers when necessary and relieves officers in non-criminal matters such as maintaining perimeters.

Promotes good public relations by providing information to students, staff, and the public.

Conducts security inspections by focusing on crime prevention through environmental design and suggests ways to reduce risks.

Helps with traffic direction, parking enforcement, and managing entry points.

Identifies and reports potential safety or security hazards.

Conducts foot patrols of buildings and grounds, completing inspection checklists.

Provide security functions during games and other special events as needed.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Essential Functions
These essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following. Additional essential functions may be identified and included by the hiring department.
- Patrols campus to identify, document, and escalate risks to public safety, including crime, environmental hazards, crowd control, and property theft and damage.
- Interacts with campus community members and visitors with a customer service orientation, such as answering simple inquiries and providing directions.

Minimum Education/Experience
Education: High School or Equivalent
Experience: (2) Two Years Experience
Licensure: Must have a valid driver’s license upon employment.
Preferred Qualifications
Must obtain and maintain CPR and first aid certification within 3 months of employment.

Minimum Physical Requirements
