Assistant Director, Business Systems
BYU Continuing Education's Assistant Director, Business Systems directs and manages the development of business process requirements and documentation within BYU Continuing Education (CE) Human Resource (HR), Finance & Accounting, and similar business functions. This position oversees the functional design and project management of externally customized, configured, and maintained systems and solutions (e.g. Workday) on behalf of CE. They identify and help resolve internal control weaknesses and policy concerns that may exist in both the manual and systemic business procedures.
Position Impact
The CE Assistant Director, Business Systems contributes to the success of CE programs. Effective HR, Finance, and other business systems support the productive management and delivery of programs that impact hundreds of thousands of lives. This position develops meaningful relationships with coworkers within CE and across the university.
What you'll do in this position:
- Hire, train, develop, and supervise, full-time employees and student employees under supervision.
- Maintain list of key responsibilities with general responsibility instructions and identified backups for self and supervised employees.
- Develop and maintain relationships with OIT System Engineers, ESG Analysts, Product Managers, Project Managers, and CE Information Technology Management and Developers.
- Working with CE business analysts, ESG analysts, and OIT engineers, maintain the overarching direction and design of business solutions configured, customized, or developed for CE.
- Manage project development meetings for the HR and Finance customizations and configurations.
- Ensure that proposed new developments and configurations are in compliance with appropriate laws, regulations, and policies.
- Manage the testing of functionality in these systems and work with ESG and OIT when upgrades occur in these university-wide systems.
- Attend various university-wide ESG and OIT planning and coordination meetings as the CE representative.
- Responsible for the maintenance of the business process documentation repository for CE.
- Based on strategic need and resource constraints identify the allocation of business analyst resources in the creation of business process documentation, functional specifications for new development, and support services offered.
- Monitor internal controls related to business processes and policies, including finance and HR.
- Perform financial reporting and accounting duties for CE business analyst team.
What qualifies you for this role:
Required
- A firm commitment to the mission of BYU
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, HR, or similar field
- 4 years accounting or HR experience or 2 years public accounting experience
- 2 years of business analysis and functional design experience
- 2 years of supervising experience
Preferred
- Master's degree in accounting, HR, or other business-related field
- Business analyst certification, Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Managerial Accountant (CMA), Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM), or similar credential
- 6 years accounting or HR experience or 3 years public accounting experience
- 4 years supervising experience
- 4 years system implementation and/or system support experience
