The Financial Aid Scholarship Advisor assists in the administration of institutional, federal, state and campus-based student financial aid programs.

Typical Job Functions

  • Assists in the administration of institutional, federal, state and campus-based student financial aid programs; including Grants, Work-Study, Direct Loans, Scholarships and Sponsorships. 
  • Performs verification of student financial aid records in accordance to federal regulations. Reviews financial aid documents for accuracy, provides approval/disapproval and makes necessary document requests.  
  • Understand and complies with federal, state and institutional regulations. Reviews regulatory and policy changes in federal, state, and other financial aid systems. Complies with and maintains FERPA regulations.
  • Counsels and assists students and parents regarding financial aid and scholarship processes, applications, provides information on available programs, procedures and eligibility, individually or in groups on financial aid matters.
  • Exercises professional judgment to determine if financial aid adjustments are appropriate in complex student situations. 
  • Coordinates with the State, Foundation and Financial Aid Offices, to administer scholarship offers. Performs annual scholarship matching and awarding, entering data into databases to ensure accurate disbursal of funds. Assisting and maintaining scholarship information on website or printed material. 
  • Maintains and adjusts student records for financial resources, unmet need, and cost of attendance as needed. Evaluates scholarship and financial aid awards, process documents, and responds to student requests. 
  • Assists in the dissemination of financial aid and scholarship information to prospective students at events, high schools, other community outreach events, and recruitment activities as needed. Acts as a representative of CEI to the community in matters of scholarships and financial aid.  
  • Conducts research and collects information for reports; prepares and submits assigned reports in accordance with federal, state and institutional guidelines. 
  • Respond to inquiries by researching and resolving problems related to transactions handled by the department.
  • Assists the Financial Aid Office, Director of Financial Aid, and Foundation Office to perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. Consistently assists with the development and best practices in the Financial Aid Office.
  • Reports directly to Director of Financial Aid.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or 2-3 years of experience in a community college or university similar setting or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved. 
  • Strong cross-cultural interpersonal skills, and communication skills. 
  • Skilled in the use of a computer and related software applications, such as Microsoft.   
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. 
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Incumbent must reside in Idaho (Currently CEI doesn’t sponsor H-1B Visas)

 

Additional Desired Qualifications

  • Experience using Ellucian Colleague software or another higher education software.
  • One year of experience with Federal Financial Aid at a post-secondary institution working with scholarships.
  • Knowledge of federal/ state regulations, and policies pertaining to financial aid and scholarships.
  • Bilingual (Spanish)

Physical Demands and Work Environment
Employees work indoors and are protected from weather and/or contaminants, but not, necessarily, occasional temperature changes.  The employee is regularly required to sit and often uses repetitive hand motions.

On-site work is essential and regular predictable attendance is required.  Employees may be required to work at occasional events and handle tasks outside of regular working hours.


Background Investigations: Employment at College of Eastern Idaho will be contingent upon the successful completion of a criminal background investigation and may require a credit and/or motor vehicle background investigation depending on the position.
