A Security Services Officer for Liberty University must be able to work independently and with little supervision. Must possess good decision making skills and be even tempered. The Security Services Officer must work his assigned shift and overtime as required. A Security Services Officer will primarily be assigned to a specific building upon properties owned / controlled by Liberty University. The Security Services Officer will be responsible for the initial primary response to any incident occurring within their assigned building and will take information to complete all non-criminal reports. Additionally, the Security Services Program will included magnetometer deployment and operation, armed security services, special event support and all other duties as assigned by LUPD Command Staff. The successful candidate will be able knowledgeable in the field of Security Services and remain abreast of all current and upcoming industry standards within the field.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
1. Respond to dispatched calls for service.
2. Patrol Assigned Building.
3. May assist with interviews of suspects, witnesses and victims regarding crimes reported in a support capacity to the investigating Police Officer with supervisory approval.
4. Complete detailed incident reports on all incidents occurring within their assigned patrol area.
5. Provide public services such as assisting with motorists.
6. Assist with special events, crowd control, traffic control, VIP security and escorts money deposits.
7. Respond to maintenance calls such as electrical, HVAC, plumbing and fire alarms to determine if certain personnel need to be called out.
8. Lock and unlock buildings, classrooms and other areas as needed.
9. Attend and successfully complete basic armed security training.
10. Report unsafe conditions existing on campus streets and facilities belonging to the University, Liberty Christian Academy and Thomas Road Baptist Church.
11. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Credentials, and Competencies
1. Must be at least 21 years old.
2. Successfully complete a hiring process including but not limited to (application; background check; oral review board; doctor’s physical and drug testing)
3. Virginia Armed Security Officer certification required within 1 year of employment
4. Must not have any conviction for a felony or crime of moral turpitude.
5. Must be able to satisfactorily pass a drug screen upon hire and ability to pass a periodic random drug test to maintain employment.
6. Possess excellent written, verbal and problem solving skills.
7. High School diploma or equivalent required.
8. Maintain a calm demeanor when dealing with the public.
9. Must be knowledgeable in dealing with emergency incident response and be able to perform simulated training successfully.
Effective communication both verbally and in writing. Ability to intuitively reason, analyze information and events, and apply judgment in order to solve problems of both a routine and complex nature. Excellent computer and organizational skills. Proof of a valid Virginia driver’s license, an acceptable DMV record, and liability insurance is required.
