Essential Job Duties

The Southeast Climate Adaptation Science Center (SE CASC) in partnership with Consortium host NC State University is seeking a Postdoctoral Scholar in Climate Justice to further climate adaptation science and practice in the Southeast and US Caribbean region. The mission of the SE CASC is to help fish, wildlife, ecosystems, and Tribal Nations adapt to a changing climate. The SE CASC focuses on the co-production of actionable science for natural and cultural resource management. The exposures and impacts of climate change are not distributed equally. Climate justice recognizes the disproportionate impact of climate change on marginalized communities. Climate adaptation actions offer the potential to mitigate the ongoing effects of climate change, but the equity of adaptation actions needs to be considered in their planning, funding, implementation, and evaluation.

We seek a Climate Justice Postdoctoral Scholar to study the equity of climate adaptation actions in the SE CASC footprint. Research could include, but is not limited to, studying the equity of climate adaptation planning, funding, implementation, and/or evaluation; barriers to implementation of climate adaptation actions in marginalized communities; or development of effective information and training on using decision-support tools and implementation in diverse communities. The Postdoctoral Scholar will have an opportunity to collaborate with regional and national climate justice leaders and a cohort of SE CASC graduate student fellows and develop activities and initiatives.

Other Work/Responsibilities

  • Scholarly research and writing of peer-reviewed papers related to climate justice.
  • Mentor interdisciplinary groups of graduate student global change research fellows on climate justice projects.
  • Collaborate with regional and national climate justice leads in the CASC system.
