The Human Resources department is looking for an experienced Human Resources Generalist to assist the Director of Human Resources with daily departmental operations and support the department in ensuring smooth and efficient business operations. The HR Generalist will have both administrative and strategic responsibilities, and will help with important functions such as staffing, training and development, and compensation and benefits.

The ideal candidate will be a people person who thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic team environment. They will be motivated, organized, creative, forward-thinking, have a keen eye for detail, and able to manage multiple projects at once. They should have a passion for education and the arts.

Founded in 1914, Cornish has multiple departments and the library supports all of them with reference, resources, and instruction. Students take classes in Art, Dance, Design, Film, Music, Performance Production, and Theater. It is known for its faculty of practicing artists who bring the arts to their students through hands-on work.

Responsibilities

  • Manages the recruitment strategy within the College including:
  • Managing job postings to a variety of sites
  • Assisting hiring committees with resume review and interviewing processes
  • Tracking and processing resumes/applications
  • Responding to applicant inquiries
  • Administers benefit programs including:
  • Determining eligibility for all benefit programs
  • Managing the online benefits portal; adding and terminating employees; and processing employee contributions
  • Notifying and explaining benefit programs to eligible employees such as medical, dental, life and disability insurances, flexible spending and health savings accounts
  • Processing all monthly benefits payables and reconciliations
  • Coordinating open enrollment process and annual Benefits Fair
  • Working with the Benefits Administrator and responding to benefit inquiries (i.e. claim problems)
  • Working with the COBRA Administrator as needed
  • Participating in the development of benefit policies
  • Submitting 403B remittances and answer employee benefit inquiries
  • Manages HR and Careers email inboxes
  • Assists finance department with payroll activities as it relates to HR
  • Serves as a resource to the department including:
  • Responding to unemployment claims and verifications of employment
  • Monitoring workers’ compensation claims and completing OSHA safety logs
  • Preparing exit paperwork and interviews as needed
  • Maintaining personnel records and other department files
  • Coordinating with Security for staff and faculty badge/building access
  • Participating in departmental budget creation and monitoring budget
  • Managing New Hire Process including:
  • Adding new hires to the payroll portal, notification spreadsheets, and Jenzabar database
  • Explaining benefit packages to staff and faculty
  • Creating a welcoming and informative training session for all new hires
  • Assists in annual audits of training programs, maintaining training database, and tracking employee completions
  • Assists the HR Director with various projects, including:
  • Exploring appropriate solutions to delicate situations
  • Conducting research to discover best practices regarding policy compliance
  • Coordinating trainings
  • Collaborating with team members to provide limited departmental decisions in the HR Director’s absence
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree plus two to three years relevant experience or equivalent combination
  • Understand employment law including FLSA, COBRA, FMLA, ADA, Workers’ Compensation, HIPAA, and IRS regulations
  • High level of organization, proficiency and attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office in particular Word and Excel
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees (faculty, staff and students) and public
  • Proven ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism
  • Ability to relate well with a diverse community
  • Must pass background check

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Washington State labor and leave laws
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Certificate in HR Management (PHR or SHRM-CP)

Compensation: Hourly: $26.00 hr. to $27.85 hr.
Modality: In-Person position
