Description
The St. Charles Police Department seeks to hire competent, dedicated, customer service focused administrative assistants to staff the Police Records front desk at the police department. Responsible for a variety of administrative and customer service tasks. Assists with inquiries, projects, and tasks as requested or assigned. These part-time positions will include weekdays, evenings and weekends for 23 to 26 hours a week Schedules are as follows:
- Position 1 – Saturday & Sunday 8:00 am – 4:00 pm and Tuesday & Thursday 12:00 pm – 5:00 pm
- Position 2 – Saturday & Sunday 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm and Monday, Wednesday, Friday 12:00 pm – 5:00 pm
- Position 3 – Saturday & Sunday 8:00 PM – 12:00 am and Monday, Wednesday, Friday 5:00 pm – 10:00 pm
Examples of Duties
- Welcome citizens and visitors by greeting them, in person or on the telephone, and answering or referring inquiries appropriately.
- Receive citizen complaints and take appropriate action to initiate an efficient response. This includes handling after-hours non-911 emergency call-outs for City staff to respond to a variety of situations.
- Utilize written procedures and department computer systems to make inquiries, perform miscellaneous clerical functions, and assist the public, officers, and other law enforcement agencies.
- Accept various cash payments and issue receipts with accuracy.
- Monitor department surveillance, intercom, and security system.
- Applicants will occasionally work alone in the office and should have the flexibility to cover other shifts when needed to provide office coverage.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- One year of receptionist or administrative experience, prior police experience is a plus.
- Fluency in Spanish is a plus.
- Ability to communicate effectively and tactfully and maintain composure in stressful situations.
- Operate a variety of computer systems, software programs, and applications to inquire and perform data entry.
- LEADS (Law Enforcement Automated Data System) authorization, or ability to obtain within six months of hire.
- Perform duties with initiative, good judgment and resourcefulness.
- If selected, successful completion of a background check, including fingerprinting, and drug screen are required.
Supplemental Information
Salary and Benefits
Starting pay is $27.51/hr. This part-time position is pension qualified with the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF) and eligible for the 457 deferred compensation plan and paid holidays. Part-time employees are not eligible for health insurance.
