Title: Manager, Human Resources

Program: Human Resources

Hours: Flexible to meet program needs

Supervisor: Chief Operating Officer

Job Summary: As an integral part of the management team, handles all Human Resource functions for Martha’s Village and Kitchen in accordance with all applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations.

Essential Functions:

o In conjunction with the COO and President, formulate and recommend Human Resources policies and objectives for the entire organization.

o Determine and recommend employee relations practices necessary to establish a positive employer-employee relationship and promote a high level of employee morale.

o Identify legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting Human Resources functions (e.g. OSHA, FEHC, EEO, TEFRA, ERISA, and Wage & Hour).

o Monitor exposure of the organization.

o Direct the preparation of information requested or required for compliance. Approve all information submitted.

o Act as primary contact with labor counsel and outside government agencies.

o Protect interests of employees and the organization in accordance with the organization’s Human Resources policies and governmental laws and regulations.

o Final review and approval for terminations.

o Review employee appeals through complaint procedure.

o Direct a process of organizational planning that evaluates structure, job design, and resource forecasting throughout the organization.

o Identify process of organizational development that primarily addresses succession planning throughout the organization.

o In conjunction with the COO and President, establish wage and salary structure, pay policies, performance appraisal programs, employee benefit programs and services, and the organization’s health & safety programs.

o Establish standard recruiting and placement practices and procedures.

o Establish in-house management training programs that address organization needs across division lines.

o Identify and coordinate necessary education and materials to line management and employees--workshops, manuals, employee handbooks, and standardized reports.

o Conduct a continuing study of all Human Resources policies, programs, and practices to keep top management informed of new developments.

o Direct the preparation and maintenance of such reports as are necessary to carry out the functions of the department. Prepare periodic reports to top management, as necessary or requested.

o Inform COO and President of significant problems that jeopardize the achievement of objectives, and those which are not being addressed adequately at the management level.

o Perform other reasonably related business duties as assigned by immediate supervisor and other management as required.

o Perform all onboarding and offboarding of employees.

o Responsible for all pre-employment procedures including arranging drug screenings, background checks and offer letters.

o Coordinate with outside legal counsel as necessary.

o Responding to Unemployment claims and notices.

o Provide support to the Board of Directors as assigned. Includes scheduling, preparation of meeting packets, room set up, filing minutes and record keeping.

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Minimum Education and Experience: BA or equivalent in Human Resources; specialized training in organizational planning, compensation, and preventive labor relations. Any equivalent combination of education (e.g. Human Resources Certification), experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Management background with broad knowledge of employment, compensation, organizational planning, employee relations, and training and development; five (5) to eight (8) years experience gained through increasingly responsible management positions within Human Resources or a minimum of three years recent experience at the highest level of Human Resources management.

Market Education and Education:

Preferred Education and Experience: A minimum of three (3) years recent experience as the top Human Resources executive of a non-profit agency.

Other:

· Experience with ADP Workforce Now.

· Proficient with Microsoft Office products. Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

· High energy level, comfortable performing multifaceted projects in conjunction with day-to-day activities.

· Superior interpersonal abilities. Ability to get along with diverse personalities, tactful and flexible.

· Good reasoning abilities--sound judgment.

· Good communication skills.

· Resourceful and well organized.

· Ability to establish credibility and be decisive--but able to recognize and support the organization’s preferences and priorities.

· Results and people oriented, but with sound judgment--ability to balance other business considerations.

Skills:

· Thorough understanding of the organization’s Vision, Mission and CREED.

· Ability to make decisions based on education preparation and experience, which reflect consistency with organization philosophy, policies and procedures.

Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups and/or boards of directors.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Work Environment: The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate with a high level of activity and competing demands.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $30.00 - $34.00 per hour
