The Coordinator, Recruitment and Community Outreach manages programs and services related to student recruitment and outreach, and provides guidance to community members in accessing and navigating college resources. These programs and resources include the Tuition Assistance Grant (TAG) program; Adult Education (ABE/GED) programs; the Concurrent Enrollment program; private schools’ recruitment; Church and community organization programming; and Workforce Development & Continuing Education (WDCE) transitioning student recruitment. Responsible for the, web, on/off campus visitation, and telephone communication for all prospective students encountered via these programs.

Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Associates degree in student personnel services, higher education administration, social sciences or equivalent formal training in related field.
  • Four years of experience in a position directly related to student recruitment in high education, community relations or related professional area.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Supervisor experience preferred.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
    • Coordinate and execute college-wide and external Recruitment and Admissions programs and enrollment initiatives, and respond to related inquiries to support enrollment from said initiatives including: Open Houses, Tuition Assistance Grants for stop-out students, WDCE bridge programs, Adult Education transition students, concurrent enrollment, school programming (private, public, and home school), community programs, and college fairs.
    • Track and support new students through the matriculation process while in the enrollment funnel.
    • Travel extensively within Prince George’s County, and other relevant areas for student recruitment purposes, including high school visits.
    • Partner with and provide Recruitment and Admissions services to Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS), private, and home school populations, and support Creating Opportunities for Academic Success and Transfer Advisors (COAST Advisors) in their school population’s Recruitment and Admissions endeavors.
    • Partner with and provide Recruitment and Admissions services to special populations including high school Parent Engagement Assistant (PEA) Liaison program, Unemployed/Underemployed population, and Veterans & Military populations
    • Pre-advise prospective and new students in the process of clarifying life/career and educational goals for the realization of these goals through credit and noncredit options, and provide assistance in the successfully completion of the enrollment process.
    • Provide summary reports of activities, participants, and responsible for creating innovative strategies, through these programs to increase college enrollment. Strong understanding of secondary school issues as well as issues affecting currently enrolled students. Presentations of college information at elementary, (keep middle, take out schools) and high schools, and community/corporate centers.
    • Coordinate the college’s recruitment retention efforts with Prince George’s County Libraries, corporations, and community centers by developing and sending correspondences regarding enrollment opportunities and arranging visits/meetings.
    • Provide support to prospective students through involvement in meaningful and appropriate activities designed to develop cultural, social, educational and vocational experiences.
    • Present college admission requirements, registration requirements, transfer student requirements, alternate instructional formats (online), and campus resources and services information in both one-on-one and group presentation formats.
    • Provide scheduled Recruitment and Admissions support to prospective and current students via the Virtual Student Services Center (VSSC).
    • Generate periodic reports on meetings with community leaders, school officials, and any other contacts made related to student initiatives.
    • Work closely with the offices of Records and Registration, Student Academic Planning and Career Readiness (SAPCR), Student Financial Aid, and the Testing Center to remove impediments and facilitate student matriculation.
    • Assist the assigned extension center as a liaison to the Recruitment and Admissions in coordinating recruitment initiatives
    • Use the appropriate medium to fulfil virtual, in-person, and phone student appointments scheduled through the college’s appointment processes.
    • Keep college staff abreast of issues affecting prospective students from Prince George’s County and currently enrolled students at the college.
    • Interpret and accurately communicate college policies and procedures for students, faculty, and staff.
    • Maintain active membership in national, regional, and local organizations related to student recruitment and admissions, registration, financial aid, and other related affiliations.
    • Assist students with Owl Link and Navigate processes during peak registration events and provide direction for all enrollment activities.
    • Attend staff meetings and staff training activities.
    • Participate in off- campus evening and weekend programs.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Director of Recruitment and Outreach, the Director of Recruitment and Admissions, and/or the Dean of Enrollment Services Management.

 

KNOWLEDGESKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Ability to communicate current college admission requirements, registration requirements, transfer student requirements, alternate instructional formats, and campus resources and services
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite to prepare reports and track student inquiries to applicants
  • Knowledge of word processing to prepare reports and program proposals
  • Excellent time management skills to develop, implement, and manage student recruitment programs
  • Ability to work independently with assigned tasks with little or no supervision
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to prepare monthly and annual reports, develop written program proposals, and develop written and electronic communication for prospective students
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service
  • Flexibility with schedule to handle multiple events and projects
  • Ability to learn tasks quickly and implement them efficiently
  • Strong attention to detail in relation to program development and implementation as well as attention to detail with following through with prospective students.
  • Ability to make and sustain community contacts for student recruitment program development
  • Ability to convey college information articulately and effectively to prospective students, families, and community leaders
  • Ability to travel to and from recruitment programs
  • Ability to collaborate with various offices and external community constituents for program development
  • Strong people skills, good judgment, and strong decision-making skills
  • Be proficient in the use of computer and cellular phone technology to support department activities, e.g. Colleague, Microsoft Office Suite, Navigate and other related software, and to respond to new student email, phone, virtual, and text message inquiries.

Job Requirements
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to a, personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. No significant climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions.

 REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to communicate effectively in spoken and written standard English.
  • As required by the 1986 Immigration Act, be prepared to present acceptable documentation showing your identity and that you are a U.S. citizen or an alien who is authorized to work.
  • A background investigation will be conducted prior to the offer of employment. A signed authorization for the release of personal information will be required if selected for an interview.
